Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the ongoing online data collection seeking to measure the impact of COVID-19 across a broad spectrum of economic activities. We review and classify several survey designs according to their focus, the type of information collected, the method of analysis and finally make a short appraisal for each of these surveys. Our focus is global and revolves around companies, households, governments and banks. We also review and reflect on conventional methods as well as digital approaches to data collection and identify strengths and weaknesses that emerge from each of them. Finally, we propose an innovative dynamic approach that combines both methods for collecting data on COVID-19 in future research.
