What We Do

Endowed by AXA Research Fund (AXARF), we believe in scientific discoveries that play a critical role in generating policy and practice for the transformation of society and the improvement of lives. Therefore, we are committed to:

  1. Leading Scientific Research

We undertake rigorous research that aims to significantly enhance the knowledge, practice and policy in the areas of financial stability, inclusive and sustainable growth, and economic transformation. Our research activities are embedded in THREE research projects:

AXA Chair in Global Finance

Inclusive Finance

Financial Systems in China

2. Connecting Scholars, Practitioners and
Policy Makers

We bring together world-leading scholars, practitioners and policy makers through various events, throughout the year. The idea is to facilitate the generation of new findings as well as dissemination of knowledge and experiences in relation to the global financial system and the world economy.

At the same time, we enable researchers to engage with policy makers, private sector practitioners, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), in order to identify emerging issues and to feed public debate on existing and emerging issues.

3. Supporting Education

We dedicate our expertise and resources to supporting the teaching and learning of global finance via our host research laboratory - School of Finance and Management (SFM), SOAS University of London.  SFM has an outstanding track record of research in finance and management. It was placed within the top quintile (top 20%) of Business and Management Schools in the country by the UK’s official Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF2014) Research Intensity/Quality League Table.

We support Degree Programmes, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Summer Courses. We generate new research that feeds directly into our degree programmes at the undergraduate level (specifically, the BSc Accounting and Finance), and at the Masters level (especially the MSc Finance). Through our MRes, MPhil/PhD Scholarships, offered by the Centre for Global Finance and the AXA Chair in Global Finance, we invite talented individuals from all over the world to be part and parcel support our research projects.

4. Contributing to Societal Progress

We bring contributions to societal progress via pioneering scientific discoveries.  We believe that our research outcomes can empower individuals and communities to face today’s challenges and forge themselves a better life.

  • We help emerging economies to identify mega trends that shape developments in the global financial system and the world economy

  • We help to identify trends in financial crises

  • We track the drivers of sustainable and inclusive growth

  • We provide technical and theoretical trainings to young researchers

  • We assist local communities in emerging economies to identify policies and practices for economic transformation

  • We strengthen the capacity of international organisations through networking and collaboration in research as well as training.
